Shaping a smarter, cleaner, and more connected city through innovation and local solutions.
Colombo, the vibrant capital of Sri Lanka, is growing rapidly, but with that growth come serious urban challenges, including traffic congestion, recurring floods, unmanaged waste, and increasing energy demands. I created ColomboNext as a personal initiative to explore how smart, sustainable technologies can help address these complex issues and improve the quality of life in our city.
This project showcases practical, tech-driven solutions such as AI-based traffic systems, real-time flood monitoring, IoT-enabled smart waste bins, and solar energy optimization tools. My goal is to educate users, raise awareness, and simulate how technology can transform everyday urban living. While the site focuses on the city of Colombo as a whole, I have chosen to highlight Wellampitiya, my own locality to ensure that often-overlooked neighborhoods are also part of the conversation around smart city development. Through interactive tools, real data, and user feedback, I hope to inspire smarter, cleaner, and more connected urban living.
Colomobo's peak hour traffic causes hours of delay daily, but smart traffic sensors can optimize signal timing and improve flow in real time.
Monsoon floods severly disrupt daily life in Colombo, but smart rain sensors can simulate water levels and alert flood risks before they occur.
Overflowing bins and delayed garbage pickup pollute city streets, but IoT enabled smart bins can alert authorities as soon as they fill up.
Relying on non-renewable power increases costs and waste, while smart solar system help homes produce and manage their own clean energy.
